Welcome to Louisville Work Zones, your one-stop shop for highway construction information in the Louisville area, 2009. It’s our goal at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to provide a safe, efficient and environmentally sound transportation system for you – our residents and visitors of the commonwealth, and we continue to work toward that end. We will do our utmost to keep you informed of ongoing construction, delays and any recommended detours available. Please be patient and drive cautiously through the work zones! We hope the results of each project will provide a safer, stronger transportation system for you and all who travel our highways.
Interstate 64 between I-265 (Snyder Freeway) and the Jefferson/Shelby County line:
Eastbound I-64 traffic is diverted to the new pavement beginning at mile point 18.7. There is a lane split with permanent barrier wall between the two travel lanes. Motorists should be aware that the shoulders will be limited and will narrow at the bridge crossings. This traffic pattern will remain in effect throughout the winter.
Lane closures are also possible on westbound I-64 during the week of December 14th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. each day due to resurfacing on the Floyd’s Fork Bridge (mile point 20.7).
The speed limit is reduced to 55 MPH in the construction zone. Construction is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010.
In addition, the bridge on Gilliland Road over I-64 is scheduled to re-open on Thursday, December 17th. Once Gilliland Road re-opens, KY 1531 (Fisherville Road) will be closed for approximately three weeks due to construction activities. Motorists should follow the signed detour via US 60, Gilliland Road and KY 148.
The actual starting date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.

Interstate 264 at Westport Road:
Now underway Construction continues on schedule for the new interchange on Interstate 264 at Westport Road and the widening of Westport Road between Hubbards Lane and I-264. Within the last month, the new eastbound overpass construction was completed. Traffic was shifted from the westbound side of the roadway to the eastbound lanes. The old westbound bridge was removed to make way for construction of the new westbound overpass. Sound barrier installation has begun on the east side of the project. The contractor will continue this work item throughout the life of the project. The attachment indicates the locations where sound barriers will be installed. Work on the mainline of Interstate 264 is scheduled for completion by the end of the year. All lane shifts will be removed and lane closures will be at a minimum. This work does NOT include the ramps for the interchange. The interchange opening will coincide with the completed widening of Westport Road. The entire project is scheduled for completion by Derby 2010.
